Aboriginal Development Coordinator
Work Location: Hedland Operations - Fortescue’s Hedland Operations are located on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people.
Roster: 4D/3R FIFO ex Perth or Port Hedland residential
Role overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Hedland Operations Aboriginal Development team.
The successful candidate will contribute to the sustainable development of our Aboriginal workforce in order to attract, retain and develop Aboriginal employees whilst providing culturally informed support to leaders and key stakeholders.
Reporting to the Aboriginal Development Superintendent, the Coordinator’s primary focus and responsibility is supporting the design and implementation of programs aimed at driving employee engagement within the business.
The Coordinator will apply their excellent interpersonal and communication skills to proactively work with employees and leadership to positively influence relationships. The right person will have an ability to work across several teams, leaders, and sites, be flexible and adaptable to different environments and have excellent knowledge and experience in working with and empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait people.
Key accountabilities will include:
- Develop and facilitate effective strategies to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees through their employment journey with Fortescue.
- Develop and deliver quality initiatives that produce real outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees while maintaining clear and concise records.
- Collaboratively work with site teams to deliver effective programs across the operations.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders who contribute to the success of the Aboriginal Employment and Engagement strategy.
- Effectively engage with Operational leaders and community members who contribute to the success of the Aboriginal Engagement and Employment strategy, including Traditional Custodian engagement and employment and development pathway initiatives (school-based trainees, school leaver trainees, VTEC and site programs).
- Develop and promote culturally inclusive initiatives to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce resilience and reliability.
Qualifications and experience required:
- Demonstrated ability to use initiative and work in a complex and changing environment.
- Demonstrated experience with liaison and consultation with external stakeholders critical to Aboriginal Development and Engagement.
- Strongly developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence, manage conflict, and facilitate difficult conversations in a professional, culturally appropriate, and respectful manner.
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of challenges and barriers of diverse work environments with the ability to build operational leadership knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and communities.
- Demonstrated strong case management skills with the ability to develop and support personal and professional growth and wellbeing.
- Demonstrated experience in planning and coordinating structured site initiatives, events and training programs.
- Demonstrated experience in program management and/or business administration within a community development or other relevant field.
