Aboriginal Development Superintendent
Roster: 4D3R FIFO ex Perth
Location: Fortescue’s Eliwana operations are located on the traditional lands of the Puutu Kunti Kurrama People and Fortescue’s Iron Bridge Operations are located on the traditional lands of the Nyamal People.
We’re recruiting for two Aboriginal Development Superintendents to be based at Eliwana and Iron Bridge respectively. Reporting to the Fortescue People Manager, the Aboriginal Development Superintendent’s primary objective is to increase the representation, development, and retention of Aboriginal employees within our operations. The role will initially be a 12-month contract with the possibility of permanent.
The role responsibilities will include:
- Collaborating with various departments to develop and implement strategies to increase Aboriginal employment rates across all levels and areas the site
- Working closely with our people team and leaders to develop recruitment initiatives that attract talented Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates, ensuring inclusive hiring practices
- Designing and delivering culturally sensitive training programs that promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness, understanding, and inclusivity
- Providing ongoing support and mentorship to Aboriginal employees, supporting them and their leaders to facilitate their career progression and personal development
- Building on our strong relationships with our Traditional Custodian groups, communities, and educational institutions to promote job opportunities
- Monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress, measure outcomes, and report on the effectiveness of Aboriginal development initiatives
- Collaborating with the relevant teams to ensure the success of our industry leading programs such as VTEC
- Keeping up to date with industry best practices, policies, and legislation related to Indigenous employment and engagement.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Strong understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal cultures, history, and issues faced by Indigenous communities
- Demonstrated experience in implementing Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander employment and development programs
- Solid knowledge of Indigenous employment legislation, policies, and best practices
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders and build strong relationships
- Proven ability to design and deliver effective training programs that foster cultural awareness and inclusivity
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, manage timelines, and deliver results
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and influence change at all levels of the site
- Relevant certifications, qualifications, or degrees in Indigenous studies, human resources, or related fields would be an asset
