Work Location: Various Fortescue sites including Chichester, Iron Bridge and Eliwana, located across Fortescue’s Pilbara operations.
Roster: FIFO ex Perth – roving roster
This is a roving maintenance role supporting power station assets across Chichester, Iron Bridge and Eliwana. The successful candidate will travel between sites to execute planned maintenance, shutdown activities, major overhauls and reliability improvement works as required.
Reporting to the Site Supervisor, you will join a technically disciplined team responsible for maintaining the reliability, availability and performance of Fortescue’s power generation assets.
You will work across a range of diesel generation equipment including:
- Cummins QSK78 generators
- Cummins KTA50 generators
- MTU 4000 Series G63 generators
- Caterpillar 3516 generators
This is an excellent opportunity for a highly capable mechanical tradesperson to apply advanced diagnostic, overhaul and specialist engine maintenance skills across a diverse fleet of power generation assets.
- Execute routine, corrective and major mechanical maintenance activities across power generation assets in accordance with maintenance plans.
- Travel across Fortescue sites to support scheduled works, shutdowns, major maintenance and breakdown recovery as required.
- Perform advanced fault finding, diagnostics, repairs and component replacement on large diesel reciprocating engines.
- Conduct major engine overhauls, top-end rebuilds, liner and piston replacement, crankshaft inspections and major component change-outs.
- Carry out fuel system diagnostics, engine tuning support, vibration analysis and condition monitoring activities.
- Maintain and repair auxiliary systems including fuel, cooling, lubrication, air intake and exhaust systems.
- Operate and maintain mechanical balance of plant equipment associated with power generation facilities.
- Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with statutory and site requirements.
- Support defect elimination, reliability improvement and preventative maintenance initiatives.
- Contribute to shutdown planning, execution and post-work improvement reviews.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure compliance with SAP maintenance strategies and work management processes.
- Work collaboratively with operations, maintenance, planning and reliability teams to minimise downtime and optimise asset performance.
- Mechanical Trade Qualification.
- Demonstrated experience maintaining large diesel reciprocating engines in power generation, mining, heavy industry or similar environments.
- Strong experience with one or more of the following engine platforms:
- Cummins QSK78
- Cummins KTA50
- MTU 4000 Series
- Caterpillar 3516
- Proven experience in advanced mechanical diagnostics and fault finding.
- Experience performing major engine maintenance, rebuilds and overhauls.
- Experience with crankshaft inspections, liner and piston replacement, fuel system diagnostics, vibration analysis and condition monitoring highly regarded.
- Current WA Manual C Class Driver’s Licence.
- Strong understanding of safe work practices, isolation processes and maintenance management systems.
- Experience using SAP or similar CMMS systems desirable.
- Experience working within power generation operations highly desirable.
- High Risk Work Licences including Forklift, Dogging or Rigging desirable.
- Ability to work flexibly across multiple Fortescue sites in a roaming maintenance support role.
