Advanced Manufacturing Manager - Green Fleet Development

In support of Fortescue’s strong focus on green energy and our carbon neutrality targets, one of our key initiatives will be in our Green Fleet projects whereby we will develop and test a range of technologies to power our mining fleet
Based out our new Hazelmere R&D facility and reporting to the Green Fleet Head of Portfolio Delivery, we are presently looking for an Advanced Manufacturing Manager. The role will be instrumental in developing the manufacturing strategy and delivering on the roadmap to industrialisation and maturing the organisation in terms of manufacturing business process development.
Key accountabilities will include:
- Providing leadership and oversight for all Advanced Manufacturing activities in support of Green Fleet machines & product industrialisation strategy, including developing a manufacturing strategy for best-in-class scaling.
- Leading the Manufacturing business case definition activities (incl. modelling of inputs), “make versus buy” analysis on individual sub-systems, components etc.
- Supporting the Portfolio Delivery Managers with the development of the overarching Portfolio Delivery Road Maps (part of which are the production pathways)
- Defining best practice standardised production system(s) which uses a common approach across the various manufacturing locations.
- Developing and deployment of Manufacturing specific metrics & KPI’s that will allow the Manufacturing strategy to be realised.
- Recruiting and growth of the Advanced Manufacturing team, providing vision and purpose for scaled manufacturing, management of Advanced Manufacturing Engineers and activities in support of the business needs.
- Aligning and synchronising the Supply Chain and Manufacturing plans, systems & processes to ensure both supply chain and production facilities are fit for purpose.
- Supporting the development of PFMEA, control plans, SOP’s, MBOM’s and work instructions for all machines & products.
- Developing and implementing best practice Industry 4.0 techniques, working within a digitally driven organisation.
- Executing the industrialisation strategy in support of delivering best in class manufacturing facilities, including location strategy, capital plan, automation.
- Delivering the plan for manufacturing facility inception and launch, capital sourcing and commissioning, team hiring and training, implementing a lean manufacturing system.
- Sourcing and managing line integrators and equipment providers to achieve plant design and implementation.
- Providing guidance and support to the Green Fleet Team; be the knowledge centre of excellence for Green Fleet manufacturing.
- Performing staff appraisals of all direct reports and develop action plans to develop staff competence, training and capability.
Qualifications and skills required:
- An experienced manufacturing operations’ professional, with demonstrated leadership of manufacturing facilities from inception / start-up through to fully launched plant, with proven ability to start from a blank sheet of paper.
- A background in Lean manufacturing (5S, Six Sigma, Kaizen), including hands-on experience in Automation delivery and establishing best in class facilities including IOT digital manufacturing.
- Manufacturing-based business process leadership experience, driving a culture of broader business improvement outside of operations.
- Knowledge of assembly processes (welding, adhesive, robotic assembly, automated lines, manual assembly), including complex electromechanical products (e.g power systems, power-electronics, battery pack etc.)
- Demonstrated leadership in cross functional roles desirable – programme mgt, broad operations, business unit mgt.
- Excellent programme management skills- demonstrated portfolio management capability.
- Track record of sizeable operations’: capital projects >$25m & manufacturing plants and cost centres > $30m annual turnover
- Technical degree preferable (STEM or Operational management)
- Post graduate management studies beneficial.
- Strong practical problem-solving skills with knowledge and experience to mentor others in the use of disciplined problem-solving tools (e.g 8D, FMEA, Control Plans, SOP’s)
- Experienced in implementing APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) and PPAP (Production Part Approval Process)
- Knowledge of iPLM systems (Integrated Product Lifecycle Management)
- Knowledge of statistical techniques (MSA, Acceptance Sampling, Process Capability, Statistical Process Control, Gauge R & R,)
