We are looking for an Adviser Closure Readiness, Asset & Waste Disposal to join our Closure Readiness team and lead all activities relating to closure readiness including asset and waste disposal.
This role is a great opportunity for an experienced person to contribute to our closure projects, systems, plans and research. Working a 9-day fortnight and reporting into the Superintendent– Closure Readiness, you will:
- Manage Contractor/ Consultant safety and performance
- Reduce Weipa’s closure liability by developing processes, planning and executing the rationalization of excess warehouse stock, disposal of unneeded assets and removal of scrap and waste.
- Oversee the heavy mining equipment end of life tyre recycling program.
- Develop pathways and relationships with external partners to improve current asset and waste disposal practices
- Complete all preparatory activities required to establish waste disposal pathways during the demolition phase of closure execution.
- Complete trade-off analysis and share closure learnings across RTA to build an operating philosophy that promotes operational excellence and long-term cost savings through improved operating practices.
- Provide excellence in Risk Coordination for Weipa Closure Readiness
- Develop strategies, systems and agreements with RTAW internal stakeholders to identify key work to prepare for the transition to closure execution at Weipa’s Northern Operation
- Integrate improvement initiatives into existing business systems to assure locked in.
- Display excellence in budget management
- Assist to develop and adhere to the Closure Readiness schedule
About you
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
- Project management skills with demonstrated track record across a broad range of subject matter
- Experience in stakeholder engagement planning and implementation
- Ability to work with a diverse range of people, negotiating and embedding mutually beneficial outcomes.
- Experience in Contractor Management, including developing scopes of work, tender evaluations, contact establishment and supervision.
- Management of Change skills.
- Skills in SAP are considered advantageous.
- Experience in Risk and Risk systems management are considered advantageous.

Where you will be working
Our Weipa operations in Far North Queensland includes three bauxite mines, processing facilities, shiploaders, an export wharf, two ports, power stations, a rail network and ferry terminals. Amrun, our newest mine, was completed in 2018 and will extend our Weipa bauxite operations by decades, significantly building on our 55-year history on the Western Cape, and providing jobs and supporting business growth in the region. The mine is located on traditional land. We work closely with the Traditional Owners to implement our agreements, ensuring that the benefits generated from mining support future generations and that important cultural heritage sites are identified and preserved.
