We are looking for a site-based Environment Advisor to join our HSE team at Rio Tinto Weipa.
In this role you will partner with site operations and other service function professionals to champion Environmental, Safety and Health performance. Reporting to the Superintendent Environment, and working as part of a team of environmental professionals, you will be:
Partnering with operations and maintenance teams and stakeholders to support environmental risk management & reduction.
Implementing and verifying the business’ Integrated Environmental Management System alongside other Rio Systems.
Compliance activities including inspections, reporting, data collection, and documentation
Managing a range of environmental issues, for example: water quality management, contaminated land and waste management, marine environment and dredging impacts, air emissions and extraction.
Project management of contractors and consultants providing environmental services.
Providing environmental advice in the interpretation of legislation, acts and regulations.
Preparing and submitting compliance and investigation assessment reports in association with our licence to operate.
Collating, reviewing and interpreting data for internal Rio Tinto and statutory reporting purposes.
What you’ll bring
A Bachelor’s degree in an Environmental (or related discipline) is highly desirable or 5+ years practical experience with knowledge of key concepts theories and practices related to environmental aspects & impacts, risk management, State and Federal Legislation and integrated environmental management systems.
Knowledge of Management Systems ISO 14000:1 and the Queensland Environment regulatory framework.
Relevant industry (large scale mineral processing or chemical manufacturing) or mining experience.
Demonstrated experience in executing work with a strong attitude towards environmental, health & safety improvement.
Excellent communication and partnering skills with the ability to work both independently & as part of a multidisciplinary.
Resilience and a dynamic approach to problem solving.
Experience with GIS systems to support environmental data analysis and spatial reporting is advantageous
