About the role
We are looking for an Adviser Laboratory and Building Services to help the Technical Development and Operations division maintain a safe, efficient and high-performing workplace that supports studies, projects, innovation and closure activities across Rio Tinto. This role contributes to the operational effectiveness of the Bundoora Technical Development Centre (BTDC), a state-of-the-art facility supporting laboratory testing, pilot plant programs and technical development work across multiple commodities.

What you’ll be doing
Reporting to the Supervisor Maintenance and Facilities and working in a collaborative community within the Technical Development and Operations division, you will:
Maintain the safe and efficient operation of office spaces, laboratories, pilot plant areas, plant rooms and site grounds
Support compliance with Rio Tinto standards, Australian regulations and site health, safety and environmental requirements
Coordinate and oversee electrical, mechanical, cleaning and other service contractors to deliver quality outcomes
Coordinate building maintenance activities, security systems and site service requirements to minimise disruption to operations
Support office fit-outs, workspace reconfigurations and facility upgrades that meet evolving business needs
Coordinate building-related projects and improvements from planning through to successful completion
Maintain equipment, supply and storage processes to support day-to-day laboratory and site operations

Required for Success
A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple facility, maintenance and contractor activities within a safety-critical environment
Experience in facilities management, building maintenance, site services or a similar operational support role within industrial, research, manufacturing, laboratory or technical environments
Relevant trade, facilities, maintenance or building services qualifications, or equivalent practical experience
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and experience using maintenance, contractor management or facility management processes
Experience leading or supervising contractors and supporting risk management, safe work procedures and compliance activities
Helpful for Success
Knowledge of laboratory, pilot plant or technical development environments
Current licences or certifications such as forklift, working at heights, confined space or dogman

The BTDC is a large 7000m2 facility with offices, laboratories, large scale testing facilities. We support Rio Tinto to innovate and deliver value for Growth and Closure studies. We work across all of Rio Tinto’s product groups and commodities.
