We are looking for a Drilling Advisor to provide specialist drilling discipline services to meet Resource Development requirements in order to rapidly advance projects with good potential across any stage of the project lifecycle until construction.

This is a great opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Drilling Advisor to join the Resource Development team supporting the safe delivery of Drilling, Earthworks and Contracted Services across the Rio Tinto Iron Ore (RTIO) business.

Reporting to the Senior Advisor- Drilling and Mechanical, and working in a challenging and exciting environment, within our Resource Development team, you will be:

  • Provide safety leadership, ensuring safety systems are in place to support the high risk activities undertaken by the contractor partner group
  • Support the development and maintenance of contractor audit processes / metrics / data to support effective contract management
  • Provide technical advice to contract partners and operations team relating to the application of the Rio Tinto, RTIO and Australian Standards
  • Provide drilling and hazard awareness coaching and training to the operations teams
  • Support the on-boarding of drilling contractors to the projects
  • Support incident investigations related to drilling specific events
  • Identify, drive and implement improvement initiatives specifically related to drilling 

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Extensive exploration and / or waterwell drilling experience with an understanding of multiple drilling methods
  • Nationally recognised drilling qualifications
  • Exposure to safety systems within a large mining company or structured organisation
  • Ability to effectively influence, collaborate with and negotiate with operational teams, contract partners and planning teams
  • Previous contractor management exposure
  • Experience in remote working conditions
  • Minimum ‘C’ Class drivers licence – 4WD training advantageous
