We are looking for an experienced Environment Advisor to support our Sustaining Capital Projects team. Within this role, you will use your technical knowledge and interpersonal skills to effectively partner with projects and other key stakeholders, enabling effective environmental management to occur.
This is a fantastic opportunity to manage a diverse portfolio of work within Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s Sustaining Capital team on projects undertaken within the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

Working a full time 5 days on, 2 days off Perth based roster and reporting to the Environment Superintendent, the role broadly entails:
- Partnering with operational teams to support effective environmental risk management;
- Prioritising support for projects based on risk;
- Implementation and verification of the business’ environmental management system;
- Managing a diverse range of operational environmental issues, for example; land clearing, rehabilitation, waste management, environmental design criteria, air quality and hydrocarbon/contamination management;
- Preparing and submitting compliance reports required in association with our licences to operate;
- Project managing contractors and consultants providing environmental services;
- Providing environmental advice in the interpretation of legislation, acts and regulations
What you’ll bring
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- A strong attitude towards safety
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- A Bachelor’s degree in an Environmental or related discipline
- Sound knowledge of key concepts, theories and practices related to the control of environment related risks, legal compliance requirements and environmental management systems
- Demonstrated experience in managing projects
- Demonstrated experience in executing technical environment related work activities
- Ability to work autonomously and independently with reliability and accuracy.

Where you’ll be working
This role will be based in Central Park offices, Perth CBD. You will be required to travel to our Pilbara operations on an ad hoc basis.
In the Pilbara region of Western Australia, we own an integrated portfolio of iron ore assets supported by functional teams in the Perth hub: a world-class, integrated network of 16 mines, four independent port terminals, a 1,700 kilometre rail network and related infrastructure – all designed to respond rapidly to changes in demand.
