We’re seeking a Health & Safety Advisor to join our HSEC team, supporting operations across Rio Tinto’s Dampier Ports. While prior experience in health and safety is highly regarded, we also welcome applicants with transferable skills and a strong commitment to building a safe and sustainable workplace. This is a great opportunity to be part of a collaborative team that plays a vital role in protecting our people, environment, and communities.
This role is offered on a permanent, full-time basis and is residential in Karratha/Dampier, working on a lifestyle-friendly roster of 5 days on / 2 days off followed by 4 days on / 3 days off.
Reporting to the Superintendent Health & Safety, you will be required to work autonomously focusing on:
- Developing and providing routine H&S information (e.g. safety statistics, incident information, risk analysis, educational material) to operational leaders.
- Providing onsite support, upskilling and facilitation of incident investigations and risk assessments.
- Partnering with operational leaders to support proactive management of key health and safety risks.
- Delivering the annual H&S plan and supporting operational leaders improving safety maturity through key initiatives.
- Supporting the roll out of fundamental H&S initiatives, training and coaching.
- Providing trusted, evidence-based advice on health and safety matters in alignment with the Rio Tinto HSEQ Management System and HOP philosophy.
- Coordination of site-based initiatives that promote the health and wellbeing of the workforce
- Identifying and implementing continuous improvement opportunities within the Health and Safety function, fostering innovation and learning through HOP-informed insights and coaching approaches.
What you’ll bring
- Holds a relevant Health and Safety or Engineering / Health-related qualification, or brings proven operational H&S experience, with a genuine passion for and deep understanding of health and safety practices.
- High level of integrity and values based decision making
- Experience in supporting the safe delivery of operational and maintenance related projects.
- Ability to work independently whilst collaborating effectively within a cross functional team.
- Strong engaging and influencing skills, with the ability to proactively support leaders and to think strategically across the business value chain
- An ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing competing priorities supporting multiple stakeholder groups
- Excellent computer literacy including use of various reporting systems is required. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Where you’ll be working
Based in Dampier, you’ll be part of the HSEC team supporting operational activities across Rio Tinto’s key port facilities at Parker Point and East Intercourse Island. These ports are integral to our world-class iron ore network, which includes 16 mines, four independent port terminals, a 1,700 kilometre rail system, and extensive infrastructure designed to respond rapidly to global demand. At Dampier Ports, the HSEC team plays a vital role in enabling safe, sustainable, and responsible operations that protect our people, environment, and communities.
