We are looking to appoint a Health & Safety Advisor to support and deliver H&S services across the Facilities division of Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s business unit. This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong passion for health and safety to be part of the Rio Tinto HSEC Team.

This role is offered on a permanent full-time basis, FIFO from Perth on a 5 days on / 2 days off, 4 days on / 3 days off roster.

Reporting to the Manager Health, Safety, Environment and Communities, you will be required to work autonomously focusing on:

  • Partnering with our major contract partner to implement their Health and Safety program on the ground.
  • Supporting the implementation of the safety maturity improvement plan for Facilities, including the coordination of mid-year and end of year safety maturity assessments.
  • Actively participate in performance rituals and cadences that support HSEC integration.
  • Promote, participate and support the health and safety fundamentals and RT safe production system deployments. 
  • Continue to support operational risk reduction activities and initiatives.
  • Support the training and assurance activities for psychosocial risk management.
  • Provide support for divisional health promotion initiatives.
  • Provide incident management and investigation guidance to ensure alignment to HSEQ standards. Provide support, monitoring and analysis of incident and action recording, implementation, and closure.
  • Risk assessment coaching and facilitation. 
  • Support frontline leaders in the development and mentoring of Health & Safety Representatives.
  • Champion and coach operational team members on the importance of CRM and understanding “the why”.
  • Coach and support assurance programs to verify compliance and control performance to Rio Tinto systems, procedures and standards (e.g. working with site standards champions &/or RTIO working groups).
  • Undertake data analytics and provide insights for guidance and recommendations for continuous reduction on exposure to risk, focusing on critical control effectiveness.

What you’ll bring

  • Demonstrated experience in working in an operational health and safety role, a relevant health and safety qualification and/or a passion for, and sound knowledge of health and safety practices
  • Ability to work autonomously is essential
  • Strong engaging and influencing skills, with the ability to proactively support leaders
  • An ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing competing priorities supporting multiple stakeholder groups
  • Excellent computer literacy including use of various reporting systems
  • Treating everyone in line with everyday respect and be an upstander.
  • Sharing and seeking out knowledge, best practice and resources across the HSEC function and RTIO.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills, to enable forming relationships with leaders based on trust and constructive challenge.
  • Taking ownership for own performance and decisions and their impact on the business.
  • Technical knowledge of legislation and Rio Tinto Health and Safety Standards.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical data skills that provide insights, trends and action plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate in an organised and flexible manner.
