The Resource Development Health and Safety Team is looking to appoint an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to support multiple hubs in the Pilbara region. This is a dynamic and mobile role, with opportunity to work across the entire Resource Development portfolio.

Working within an inclusive team of health, safety and emergency services professionals, this role will support Resource Development including Operations (e.g. drilling, earthworks), Geoscience and Hydrogeology.

This role is offered on a permanent full-time basis, FIFO from Perth on a 5 days on / 2 days off, 4 days on / 3 days off roster, including one day a fortnight in Perth.

Reporting to the Superintendent Health, Safety and Emergency Services, you will be working in a collaborative community, focusing on:

  • Delivering the annual H&S plan and supporting operational leaders improving safety maturity
  • Influence and coach operational leadership teams on fundamental H&S processes (leadership in the field, critical risk management, hazard identification and control, pre-start meetings, quality safety interactions)
  • Providing onsite support for incident investigations and risk assessments, including coaching and facilitating
  • Completing first line assurance to verify compliance to Rio Tinto systems, procedures and standards
  • Developing and providing relevant H&S information to operational leaders (safety statistics, incident information, risk analysis, educational material)
  • Coordination of site-based initiatives that promote the health and wellbeing of the workforce
  • Supporting Emergency Services projects (remote/lone worker, emergency preparedness)

What you’ll bring

  • Qualification and/or industry experience in Health & Safety or related field
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Highly motivated with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships, influence stakeholders and drive outcomes
  • Ability to work autonomously and remotely in a fast-paced environment managing competing priorities
  • Computer skills including experience using web-based systems and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge or experience in Emergency Services highly regarded but not essential

The Resource Development portfolio covers a broad and adaptive geographical footprint across the Pilbara region. Hub locations currently include areas surrounding Greater Brockman, Robe Valley, Marandoo, West Angeles, Hope Downs, Gudai-Darri and often extend to additional Rio Tinto Iron Ore locations.
