About the role

We are looking for an Advisor Heritage Approvals to support the delivery of heritage regulatory approvals and compliance activities.

In this role you will be supporting activities relating to the adherence to heritage regulatory requirements including reporting, preparing lodgements, and monitoring compliance. Reporting to the Lead Engagement Delivery, HSEC Traditional Owner Partnerships (HSEC TOP), you will:

  • Support adherence to Western Australian heritage regulatory approvals requirements, including approval submissions, and Heritage Site Information Form (HISF) lodgements to the Department of Planning, Land and Heritage
  • Review technical heritage reports ensuring compliance to Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s Cultural Heritage Management System (CHMS) approvals requirements, and identifying and elevating gaps in information required to support submissions
  • Support compliance and monitoring as it relates to regulatory and social approvals and evidentiary requirements (e.g. lodgement and consent notices, scoping and reporting procedures, report backs etc.)
  • Prepare compliance reports for Traditional Owner groups and relevant government bodies
  • Input into annual planning processes (approvals pathways and timings)
  • Compile, update and maintain information inputs into relevant internal tracking systems (e.g. Heritage Information Management System)
  • Provide awareness and uplift of heritage approvals and legislative requirements for internal stakeholders

What you’ll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will ideally have:

  • A degree qualification in archaeology, anthropology, heritage management OR equivalent with experience in cultural heritage management or government approvals within mining or another development sector.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the current Western Australian heritage legislative landscape and approvals requirements
  • Excellent communication skills with experience engaging with a variety of stakeholders, including Traditional Owners and Aboriginal corporations, corporate and mining stakeholders, communities and government departments.
  • Strong planning, scheduling and prioritisation skills
  • Experience in the use of technological solutions including GIS applications (ArcGIS), and basic Microsoft suite
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow processes to meet regulatory timeframes
