About the role
Join our inclusive and diverse team at Rio Tinto as an Advisor – Mine Water Management (MWM) at Hope Downs. This role is a key technical and advisory position within the Mine Water Management team, supporting the safe, reliable and efficient operation of site-wide water management systems.
The Advisor MWM provides specialist technical input, operational advice and problem-solving support across the mine water network. This role focuses on analysis, assurance, optimisation and continuous improvement of MWM systems and performance.
You’ll be part of a friendly team, supported by your leader to grow and achieve your own personal goals as well as the goals of the team. You’ll work on a fly in, fly out, 8 days on; 6 days off, roster which will give you more time to spend on the things that are important to you and the people in your life.
Reporting to the Superintendent Mine Water Management and working in a challenging and exciting environment, you will:
- Provide technical and operational advice to support the safe operation of the mine water management network, including dewatering systems, infrastructure and water balance performance
- Monitor, analyse and report on mine water performance, identifying risks, constraints and opportunities for improvement
- Support achievement of safety, environmental and water efficiency targets in line with Rio Tinto standards, policies and statutory obligations
- Proactively manage assets within scope, supporting planned maintenance strategies and reliability outcomes through the work management system
- Assist Superintendents and Supervisors with problem solving, investigation of issues and implementation of improvement initiatives
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across Mine Water Management, including optimisation of processes, systems and work practices
- Provide input into planning activities to ensure mine water considerations are effectively integrated into operational plans
- Collaborate with production, maintenance, HSEC and technical teams to ensure water management risks are identified, understood and controlled

What you’ll bring
- Experience in Mine Water Management within a mining or heavy industrial environment
- Strong technical understanding of water management systems, dewatering operations and associated infrastructure
- Statutory Position Legal Exam – Statutory Supervisor (or working towards)
- Current unrestricted electrical license and electrical trade qualification.
- Sound knowledge of safety and environmental systems and the ability to operate in line with Rio Tinto standards and legislative requirements
- Experience using work management systems (e.g. SAP) to support planning, prioritisation and asset management activities
- Proven ability to analyse data, identify issues and support the development of practical, fit-for-purpose solutions
- Confidence working collaboratively with operational leaders, supervisors and cross-functional stakeholders
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word
- A current Australian manual (C Class) driver’s licence

Located 100km north-west of Newman, Hope Downs 1 is a joint venture managed and operated by Rio Tinto, working in conjunction with nearby site Hope Downs 4. Hope Downs 1 provides exceptional career growth and opportunities and the village provides excellent facilities for its FIFO workers.
