We are looking for an Advisor - Process Development to provide technical support to a variety of mineral and tailings processing studies.

This role is a great opportunity to join the Technical Development team and be a part of Rio Tinto’s growth pipeline, supporting the studies that will define our future operations. Reporting to a Senior Advisor, you will:

• Plan and schedule laboratory and pilot plant work - e.g. hydrometallurgy or pyrometallurgy test work programs or tailings geochemical characterisation programs
• Lead the work of technical officers and technicians
• Lead small scale projects (responsible for quality, HSE, schedule and budget)
• Design experiments and test methods
• Interpret results and link results to technical theory
• Apply technical problem solving skills
• Have an uncompromising focus on data quality and attention to detail
• Prepare reports/memorandums detailing findings and recommendations
• Present results and recommendations to project stakeholders.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

• A tertiary qualification in Metallurgical Engineering or Minerals Processing Engineering or Chemical Engineering or Chemistry or Biotechnology
• Several years’ experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Solution chemistry/hydrometallurgy
  • Mineral (tailings) sample dewatering, shear rheology and geotechnical characterisation
• Strong data analysis skills
• Commitment to promoting a positive safety and collaborative workplace culture
• Ability to communicate in a clear and precise manner with excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently or as part of a diverse team.

It will also be beneficial if you have experience in some of the following:

• HSE leadership experience
• Good understanding of sampling theory and experimental statistical analysis/design.
• Process flowsheet modelling with either SysCAD and/or Metsim
