We are looking for an Advisor Safety and Emergency Response to provide support, advice and guidance to operational teams on the implementation of Health and Safety systems within the work environment. This is a great opportunity for a for an enthusiastic individual to maintain the sustainability of the Emergency Services Team response capability.

Reporting to the Health and Safety Lead and working in a collaborative community within the HSE Bell Bay team, you will:

  • Prepare and distribute performance reports on Health and Safety performance to the site, including identify trends and insights and End of Month/year reporting
  • Be involved in Safety Maturity Model assessments (internal and external) and other relevant audits and assessments.
  • Manage the Critical Risk Management (CRM) portal with respect to Bell Bay employees and contractors.
  • Provide advice on relevant Health and Safety risks and aspects to operational teams.
  • Facilitate the completion of incident investigations along with investigation leads.
  • Prepare and deliver Health and Safety improvement packages (e.g. shift start talks)
  • Coordinate the sites HSE committee 
  • Maintain the distribution of isolation hardware
  • Provide advice on the suitability of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Prepare the annual Emergency Response Team (ERT) training plan in conformance with relevant laws and regulations and Rio Tinto standards
  • Coordinate the delivery of the annual ERT training plan and attendance to the annual TMEC ERT competition.

What you’ll bring 

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team 
  • Diploma or Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety and/or Emergency Response (Desirable)
  • Experience in a Work Health and Safety or related field
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Organised and able to meet deadlines

Where you’ll be workingOur Bell Bay Aluminium smelter began operating in 1955 and holds a unique place in Tasmanian and Australian history as the first aluminium smelter in the Southern Hemisphere. Based approximately 50 kilometres from Launceston in Northern Tasmania, the smelter produces primary aluminium products.
