About the role 

We are looking for an Advisor WA Communities to support technical communities and social performance work across Western Australia. The role contributes to stakeholder engagement strategies, project and study plans, Pilbara Communities annual planning and compliance activities. 

Reporting to the Superintendent Communities, you will work with community stakeholders and internal teams to plan engagement, manage issues and support social investment delivery. This is an opportunity to build partnerships, represent Rio Tinto in community forums and contribute to informed, locally relevant decisions. 

What you’ll be doing 

Reporting to the Superintendent Communities and working within the Pilbara Communities team and Iron Ore Communities and Social Performance function, you will be: 

• Triage community complaints, grievances, incidents and emerging issues, coordinating timely follow-up and close-out. 

• Coordinate community giving applications, approvals and annual programme administration. 

• Plan and deliver stakeholder engagements, events, roadshows and community consultation activities. 

• Build relationships with local community groups, organisations and stakeholders to identify needs and opportunities. 

• Develop proposals, briefs, plans, schedules and supporting documentation for community activities and partnerships. 

• Maintain a local presence in inland and coastal communities and represent Rio Tinto at community forums and meetings. 

• Support community plans, social risk assessments, engagement planning and delivery in response to community and business risks. 

• Contribute to compliant and measurable community engagement and social investment outcomes against annual plans and priorities.

Required for Success 

• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team. 

• Demonstrated experience in community engagement, communities and social performance, stakeholder relations or a related field. 

• Experience planning and coordinating projects, events, consultation activities or community programmes. 

• Capability in complaints, grievance and issue management, including clear documentation and follow-through. 

• Experience building relationships with community stakeholders, local organisations and internal business teams. 

• Ability to prepare plans, briefs, proposals and reports and work with monitoring and reporting requirements. 

Helpful for Success 

• Experience supporting Indigenous or land-connected peoples engagement. 

• Knowledge of social investment, community partnerships or government relations. 

• Experience working with Pilbara communities or in a mining, resources or regional operating context.

Where you’ll be working 

This role is based in Tom Price, in the central Pilbara region of Western Australia, west of Karijini National Park. Tom Price is home to Rio Tinto’s original Pilbara mine and supports both residential and fly-in fly-out employees. The town has a high school, two primary schools, a hospital and a high standard of recreational facilities.
