About the Role

At BHP, Agile Delivery Principals play an integral role in supporting our digital teams to deliver high value solutions to their customers applying best practice Agile and DevOps principles and practices. It is the Agile Delivery Principal’s role to teach the team relevant agile practices, facilitate ceremonies, remove impediments and shield them from external distractions with pragmatism. 

This individual is a personal coach for team members and an innovator pursuing continuous improvement, with the aim of maximising team performance. 

 Key responsibilities include: 

  • Provide ongoing facilitation and coaching that enables the team to excel at Agile development in a DevOps delivery environment.  
  • Building strong relationships with customers, stakeholders and teams to drive the successful delivery of medium-to-high complexity Agile initiatives from initiation through release 
  • Facilitate discussions leading to collective decision-making, goal setting and conflict resolution within the team 
  • Coach and empower product teams to take accountability for delivery, risk and issue management and to proactively identify and remove blockers assisting when required 
  • Actively manage risks and external dependencies drawing in team members as appropriate 
  • Create and maintain the appropriate channels for open communication within the team to create a trusting, safe and high performing team environment  
  • Continuously seek to improve team performance by promoting joint accountability for results and solving productivity issues 
  • Collectively with the Product Owner owns creation and prioritisation of the digital product backlog for specific digital solutions ensuring this is customer centric 
  • Work closely with Product Owners to shape the digital product roadmap and vision ensuring these are linked to the broader Group Vision and Strategy 
  • Identify trade-offs between short and long-term benefits to drive shared vision between the team and Product Owner 
  • Be an advocate for digital talent and helping develop digital professionals to create the next horizon technical leadership in BHP. (I.e provide opportunities for cross skilling, role exposure, coaching and mentoring)  

About You

The successful candidate will have: 

  • 3+ years of experience leading teams as a Scrum Master, Iteration Manager or as technical resource in an Agile delivery environment.
  • Successfully delivered at least 3 technical projects with experience in software development and/or project management  
  • Knowledge and/or experience with Agile behaviours, tools and techniques: e.g. Collaboration, Work breakdown, User Stories, Retrospectives, Backlog Refinement, Prioritisation and Estimation, Jira, Confluence. 
  • Knowledge of Agile software development frameworks(e.g. Lean,XP, Kanban, Scrum, etc.) with the ability to apply these with pragmatism in different situations.   
  • Be well versed in how DevOps delivery practices drive high performing software teams including Test Driven Development, Continuous Integration and Delivery, Continuous Testing, Paired Programming, Automated Testing. 
  • Experience in coaching, having difficult conversations and providing feedback to people on each project you have delivered  
  • High level of flexibility with the ability to adapt to change 
  • Applicable knowledge of the technologies used by the team  
  • Excellent Facilitation, communication and mentoring skills 
  • Agile Business Analysis experience would be highly regarded 
  • STEM or Business bachelor’s degree would be highly beneficial.  
  • Disciplined Agile Scrum Master (DASM), Certified Scrum Practitioner (CSP) or equivalent certification a plus.
