About the role
As an AHS Coach (Autonomous Haulage System), you will provide productivity coaching and upskilling to mine operations teams, helping build AHS capability from competent to resilient. This role is ideal for a high performer with a passion for coaching and continuous improvement.
Reporting to the Capability Superintendent, your responsibilities will include:
• Adhere to all Rio Tinto health and safety standards, policies and procedures and report any safety hazards and risks to the appropriate channels.
• Coach operators on both load and ancillary equipment to increase AHS operational efficiency.
• Drive safe and efficient AHS operations throughout the entire load, haul, and dump cycle. Deliver targeted coaching to team members on critical safety behaviors, including optimal loading practices, risk control management, and best approaches for effective dump management.
• Continuously liaise with frontline leadership of observed operating practices leveraging a data driven approach to identify and recommend improvements that support productivity gains.
• Review performance with operators and individual coaches to improve key equipment and system KPIs (spot, load, swing times, dump and crusher configurations etc.)
• Liaise with OEMs to identify operational productivity best practices.
• Lead recognition programs to improve operator productivity and highlight improvements.
• Foster continuous improvement to identify improvements to current practices and processes to improve productivity, including completing weekly RND audits and identifying AHS improvement initiatives.
• Ensure accurate and timely reporting of safety incidents and escalation to relevant supervisors where necessary.
What you’ll bring
To succeed in this role, you will have:
• A minimum of 4 - 5 years’ experience in AHS.
• Proven experience operating a combination of production loaders, diggers, and ancillary equipment.
• Proficiency with FrontRunner or MineStar systems.
• Previous experience as a pit patroller or pit technician or similar is highly regarded.
• Strong understanding of AHS fundamentals and key mining value drivers.
• High level of computer literacy, with demonstrated proficiency in Rio Tinto systems and similar digital tools used in mining operations.
• Exceptional interpersonal and coaching skills, with a focus on relationship-building.
• Working knowledge of controller operations is advantageous.
