Our Darlot Underground team is seeking an Alternate Underground Manager who is ready to take the next step in their careers.

Site Overview

With over a century of mining history, Darlot is a cornerstone operation of Vault Minerals Limited producing high-grade gold production. With a strong legacy, Darlot is focused on the future, optimising production and driving exploration programs to extend the mine’s lifespan and uncover new resources. The Darlot mine is located about 900 km northeast of Perth and 121 km north of Leonora, in the Goldfields Region of Western Australia.

The primary purpose of the Alternate Underground Manager is to assist the Underground Manager in the day-to-day supervision and control of the underground operations in fulfilment of the WHS Mine Act (2020) and Reg (2022) requirements while at the same time executing the approved mine plans to ensure safe achievement of the mine plan and budget.

The Alternate Underground Manager works a back-to-back roster with the Underground Manager and acts as Alternate Site Senior Executive in the absence of the Underground and Operation Managers.

The position will be offered on an 8:6 roster FIFO from Perth.

Key responsibilities of this role will include:

  • Assist the underground manager in day-to-day supervision, control and management of the underground operations.
  • Act as the Site Senior Executive (SSE) in the absence of the Operation & Underground Managers.
  • Facilitate risk assessments, help review procedures, standards, guidelines etc required in operating the mine.
  • Lead incident investigations & coordinate emergency responses
  • Assist with annual capital forecasting, project scoping and project delivery.
  • Assist with operating budget planning and management.
  • Provide geotechnical, production and planning engineers with technical guidance to ensure that plans are designed, reviewed and issued in accordance with the mine schedule. 
  • Assist the mine foreman, shiftboss and operational team in following the mine schedule
  • Monitoring of development and stoping excavations in relation to size and position in comparison to planned, geology and ground control management.
  • Ensure accurate production reconciliations are completed as part of the end of month process; summary reports are submitted to relevant stakeholders and, any production improvements highlighted in the reports are promptly evaluated and, where practicable, implemented by the production team.

About You 

  • Hold a Bachelor of Engineering (Mining), providing a solid technical foundation in underground mining principles and practices, preferably within a gold underground mining environment.
  • Demonstrate sound technical knowledge of underground metalliferous mining methods, including drilling and blasting, ground support, ventilation, production mining, and mine development activities.
  • Proven project management experience, including planning and delivery of underground mining projects, 
  • Strong planning, scheduling, and organisational skills to coordinate resources and meet production targets safely.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management skills, driving accountability and strong team performance.
  • Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills, enabling clear direction and effective issue resolution.
  • Proven experience in training, coaching, and mentoring employees and supervisors to support skill development and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to lead safety and risk management initiatives through hazard identification, risk assessment, control implementation, and reinforcement of compliant safe work practices.
  • Sound knowledge of underground emergency preparedness and response, including emergency drills, incident coordination, and workforce awareness.
  • Proficient in the use of MS office suite, Deswik or any CAD mining software
  • WA First Class Mine Managers Statutory Certificate
  • Hold a valid WA Driver’s License (Manual C Class)
  • Dangerous Goods Security Card (DGSC) and Nationally Accredited Working at Heights
