About the role

The Analyst Raw Materials will manage the inbound supply chain for assigned products, placing purchase orders and ancillary tasks (such as processing of shipping documents, confirming invoices and cost centre management), to ensure site inventories are optimized.

The role will work closely with the raw material category managers regarding raw material sourcing strategy and trial plans and will make recommendations to the category managers for improvements in inventory management process.

This role is a great opportunity for a Procurement professional to manage and execute the inbound supply chain to support the implementation of global sourcing projects which contribute to the delivery of commercially favorable outcomes and optimal value to the Rio Tinto Business Unit. You will;

  • Engage with suppliers and logistics personnel to ensure timely delivery of orders to assist with administering contract management plans and identifying alternative strategies
  • Administer contract pricing to ensure purchase orders are using agreed contract prices and that supplier invoices at the agreed contract price.
  • Ensure data integrity and problem solving where there are mismatches
  • Review, report and reconcile costs relating to raw materials
  • Identify and implement best practice and advise process improvements to drive efficiencies (process/product/people)
  • Development opportunity to support key sourcing projects or lead small scale projects under supervision of the category manager
  • Preparation of management reports on a regular and ad hoc basis

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or Engineering
  • Minimum of 2 - 5 years of procurement & supply chain experience;
  • Previous experience with multi-national companies in consulting, banking, Mining, Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals, Manufacturing, Utilities, Automotive, Rail or Aerospace industries
  • Excellent time management and problem-solving skills and the ability to rapidly prioritize tasks
  • Strong Excel spread sheet skills (able to create management tools such as modelling and scenario analysis etc.)
  • Strong analytical capability and the ability to effectively collate and compile data
  • Ability to communicate succinctly verbally and in written form with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Prior experience in data analysis, reporting and systems design
  • An ability to work unsupervised and be a self-starter

The Rio Tinto Procurement raw materials team is based in Brisbane and provides supply chain services that deliver value to the Rio Tinto Group through the strategic sourcing and buying of goods and services for the aluminium smelter operations.
