Our Deflector Gold/Copper mine is in an exciting growth phase with both the mine and the mill expanding. We have recently completed the expansion of the Processing plant, which added a CIP circuit and second Ball Mill to the existing crushing, grinding, flotation and dewatering circuit. This is an excellent opportunity to join our Maintenance team as a key part of this high-performing operation.

THE ROLE

As an apprentice Mechanical Fitter, you will be introduced and mentored in all aspects of a Mechanical Trade, with hands-on experience specific to the mining industry. You will develop the skills to carry out preventative and breakdown maintenance of mechanical equipment in the Deflector Gold Processing Plant, site infrastructure and camp. As a key part of this fun, social team, you will assist experiences Fitters to provide a high standard of safe mechanical maintenance across the plant equipment.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Working within site safety structures, including adhering to site safety directives, conducting risk assessments JHA’s and take 5’s and working to SOPs
  • Assisting with Preventative and Planned Maintenance on fixed plant, including crushing, grinding, floatation and CIP circuits
  • Developing skills in rebuilding a variety of pumps, including repairs to associated piping and valves
  • Learning to maintain ancillary plant such as wastewater treatment, RO plant, bore pumps and generators
  • You will develop the skills to correctly diagnose faults in all areas of the plant

ABOUT YOU

You are a dedicated and motivated person with the skills to build strong working relationships with your team and other departments. You are keen to learn, ask when you are unsure and pick up new information quickly.

You can demonstrate the following:

  • Completed a pre-apprenticeship or have had some hands-on experience (highly regarded, but not essential)
  • Experience or understanding of pump and hydraulic systems
  • A passion for a career in Mechanical Fitting and an eye for detail
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to commit to a 4-year Mechanical Apprenticeship
  • Have a strong commitment to safety and the important it plays in Mining
  • Certificates: Confined Space, Working at Heights and First Aid (highly regarded, but not essential)
  • Be able to pass a Pre-Employment medical examination including drug & alcohol test
  • Provide a Police Clearance that meets site requirements
  • HR and Forklift licence (highly regarded, but not essential)
  • Hold a current "C Class" WA Drivers Licence (Manual desirable)
  • Knowledge of the WA Mines Safety and Inspection Act and Regulations.

You will have the opportunity to be part of a fantastic team, working a day shift only 8:6 roster, either FIFO from Perth or DIDO from Geraldton and surrounding areas.
