As part of the Rio Tinto Group, Bell Bay Aluminium are seeking Apprentices – Mechanical (Fitter and Turner), and Apprentices – Electrical to join our maintenance team, where you will work across a variety of areas and gain exceptional knowledge and skills.

These roles are a great opportunity for hands on, self-starters who are looking to commence their career in the industry. Reporting to the respective area Supervisors, you will be:

  • Learning and developing trade knowledge and skills relating to plant maintenance, machinery, processes and systems deployed across the site.
  • Working towards completing an apprenticeship in conjunction with a nationally recognised training plan through internal and external training (i.e. Tas TAFE).
  • Working as part of a team to ensure safe, continuous and environmentally responsible operations.
  • Gaining experience from a range of qualified trade experts whilst being supported by onsite apprentice mentors.

What you’ll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Good Maths and English skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in Electrical or Mechanical systems or projects, with a well put together application.
  • The desire and willingness to learn with a self-motivated ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Strong work ethics with a commitment to health, safety and environmental work practices.
  • Experience working as part of a team and strong verbal and written communication skills.

Applicants must meet the specific site eligibility criteria:

Mechanical (Fitter and Turner): Successfully completed Year 12 (or expected to complete in 2024) with a minimum grade B in Essential Maths.

Electrical: Successfully completed Year 12 (or expected to complete in 2024), with a minimum grade of B in General Maths or grade C in Maths Methods.

All apprenticeships require a pass mark in English with ability to read and understand English.

Applicants who are progressing through to the next stage will be contacted and required to send copies of the following documents:

  • For applicants currently completing Year 12, a copy of your Year 11 final report in addition to your 2024 interim report.
  • For all other applicants, a copy of your final Year 12 school report.
