ABOUT GEMCO

Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 20% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role is a 14 month Fixed-Term contract on a 4:3 roster, FIFO from Darwin or Cairns. Opportunity to also be based on the island in residential furnished accommodation.

As the Project Study & Approvals Advisor, you will be responsible for supporting the delivery and execution of environmental and social impact assessment studies that will enable planned exploration and mining activities to access future resources.   

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare Mine Management Plans for planned mining activities
  • Provide support in preparing forecast budgets, monthly accruals, schedule updates and 2-yearly work plans.
  • Identify environmental and social risks associated with land access and regulatory approval pathways, and implement corrective actions to address and manage
  • Support consultants deliver on a variety of technical and social assessment related studies required as part of preparing environmental approval applications

ABOUT YOU

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

  • Prior experience in a similar role, preferably within the mining & resources industry
  • Knowledge of Federal and Northern Territory environmental legislation and approval processes
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to facilitate cooperation amongst a multi-disciplinary team of technical environmental consultants and project planning employees
  • Familiar with Mapinfo / ArcGIS spatial data management

Qualifications for this position are:

  • Tertiary Qualification in Science or Natural Resources disciplines preferable
