Approvals Specialist - Port, Rail & State Agreements
Work Location: Fortescue Centre. Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.
Roster: Monday-Friday
The Approvals Specialist - Port, Rail and State Agreements is accountable for supporting and delivering Fortescue's commitments to existing and new obligations under our State and Port Agreements. The role reports to the Manager Port Strategy & Approvals within Fortescue's Community, Environment & Government team
Key accountabilities will include:
- Building and maintaining the relationships across the business to ensure that proposals, approvals, and reports are developed to meet business requirements while ensuring that the business understands the opportunities, obligations and limitations under State Agreement Acts and Port Agreements.
- Coordinating the timely preparation of approvals and reports prepared by Functional Approval teams within the business.
- Liaising with lead agencies responsible for administering the State Agreement Acts and Port Agreements to ensure that Fortescue’s business drivers, schedules and priorities are understood and supported.
- Maintaining a schedule of current proposals, approvals and reports to track schedule compliance and mitigate risks
Qualifications and skills required:
- Excellent communication and relationship building skills including a demonstrated ability to work effectively across operational, project and studies teams within the business
- Experience in interpreting and applying State Agreement Acts and commercial agreements.
- Experience in dealing with government departments and officials.
- Excellent drafting skills including the ability to draft in accordance with statutory and contractual obligations and to quickly understand technical information from a range of mining and maritime disciplines.
- Excellent time management skills including a demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities under limited supervision;
- Experience in interpreting statute law and navigating statute-based approvals regimes; and,
- Business acumen and a strong understanding of the resources sector
