About the Role

Reporting to the Project Delivery Manager, the successful applicant will work to deliver all elements within the Locomotive RTP (Rail Technology Programme) scope, providing a strong focus on Safety, Quality and Schedule compliance whilst working with rail operations and maintenance teams as well as RTP site construction teams, the Area Lead will be responsible for the delivery of the construction programme against the agreed delivery strategy. 

In addition to on-going construction activities, the role includes the management of the locomotive dual fit design reviews, prototyping activities, design optimisation and design approvals within the RTP requirements. 

This is a Perth based role with travel to site as required.

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Management of the primary contractor to deliver the locomotive scope against the agreed schedule
  • Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders in both the project and operational teams 
  • Review design submissions to ensure compliance with requirements and relevant standards
  • Management of Change within the requirements of the Rail Systems Engineering Framework
  • Support the construction team with safety, quality, technical queries and rollingstock logistics during the construction phase 
  • Report on construction activities and deliverables against the project schedule, and key milestones
  • Review and adaption of execution strategy as the project landscape evolves
  • Assist and provide input to the commission team and drive completion of construction activities to meet commissioning targets
  • Ensuring compliance with internal governance processes 
  • Manage stakeholder engagement and interface with asset owners
  • Manage and assist in the administration of workshops and meetings between the Contractor and Stakeholders.
  • Provide engineering support for responses to Technical Queries and Technical Reports
  • Assist with managing parallel projects impacting RTP by the business

About You

As the successful applicant you will possess the following:

  • A strong commitment to safety
  • Technical experience within Rollingstock and the delivery of major projects 
  • Electrical/Mechanical Engineering degree and/or career experience in the rail industry
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to work within an integrated team and work effectively under pressure
  • Structured approach with strong attention to detail, and the ability to problem solve on complex issues.

An understanding of the BHP SD70ACe Locomotive fleet and operational environment would be highly regarded.
