About the role

We are looking for an Asset Health Technician to provide technical assistance, support, and expert advice on continuous improvement practices on a day-to-day basis to execute condition-based inspection strategies for our Brockman 4 operations. 

This is a great opportunity for an experienced candidate with excellent diagnostic and fault-finding abilities and is looking to step into a role where they can showcase their technical knowledge while also collaborating with functional partners and stakeholders to improve plant performance and reliability.  

Reporting to Supervisor Maintenance, and working in a collaborative community within Fixed Plant Maintenance, you will:  

  • Adhere to all Rio Tinto standards, policies and procedures  

  • Actively foster and communicate a positive safety culture to promote safety awareness and compliance, encouraging prioritisation of safety in all activities and operations  

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying, evaluating and implementing improvement opportunities utilising a range of Rio Tinto best practices  

  • Collaborate closely with other functions and stakeholders in the performance of duties including coach and mentor relevant partners in the requirements of effective NDT and condition-based strategy execution, and mentor new and trainee AH technicians 

  • Provide appropriate coaching, mentoring and technical support to Fixed Plant Maintenance 

  • Safely execute routine and unplanned structural and condition-based maintenance activities on fixed plant assets, using specialised techniques such as visual, vibration analysis, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, ultrasonic and eddy current testing 

  • Accurately report all completed inspections using approved reporting formats and templates, including SAP, and responsible for ensuring data is maintained accurately in the relevant databases 

  • Monitor, track and trend identified defects to ensure risks are adequately understood and mitigated with RTIO standard instrumentation 

About you

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team. 

  • Computer Literacy (SAP Experience, Microsoft Suite) 

  • Sound written and verbal communications skills 

  • Understanding of Work Mgt, maintenance and asset health processes 

  • Self-motivation and able to work safely and independently 

  • A current Western Australia “C” Class Driver’s Licence Mechanical Trade qualification and/or reliability engineering background 

  • Experience using MHM 

  • Australian "C" Class manual drivers’ licence 

  • Level 1 & 2 Certification in Vibration Analysis

Where you’ll be working 

Brockman 4 Operations is located on the lands of the Puutu Kunti Kurrama and Pinikura and Muntulgura Guruma Peoples in the eastern Pilbara, approximately 60 kilometres from Tom Price. Originally part of Greater Brockman, operations began in 2010 for the Brockman 4 deposit. 

We are extending the life of our Brockman hub by developing the Brockman Syncline 1 mine project. Brockman Syncline will have the capacity to process up to 34 million tonnes per annum of iron ore, leveraging our existing plants. Construction has started, with first ore expected in 2027. 

There are 3 villages that are part of the operations, Brockman 4, West Pilbara and Nammuldi Village. With a fly-in fly-out workforce of around 850, our team commutes from Perth, Geraldton, Albany and Busselton.
