About the Opportunity
BHP is currently offering Auto Electrician Apprenticeships. The program is a 2 year training program based at our Perth FutureFit Academy. Apprentices study to complete a full trade qualification (Certificate III Automotive Electrical Technology AUR30320).You will be paid while you train at FutureFit Academy and become a qualified Electrician at BHP. These are permanent opportunities, and once successfully completing your studies, you will continue your employment with BHP based at one of our mine sites.
The training program involves applying knowledge of automotive/ mining electronics, engines, and chassis with the ability to diagnose and repair automotive/mining electrical & air-conditioning systems.
Accommodation and transportation is not provided and candidates would need to relocate to the Perth area if they do not already live locally. BHP has sites across Australia and it is important to understand that you may be required to relocate (including interstate) once you complete your training. This is based on demand for your trade or skillset across our mine sites.

About You
We’re looking for people from a broad range of backgrounds. Previous maintenance training is not necessary however you will have a genuine interest in fixing, assembling, repairing or tinkering.
To set you up for success, you will need:
- A high commitment to safety is a must
- A strong desire to learn and develop a range of new skills
- Motivation to achieve goals & enjoy a mixture of classroom and hands-on learning
- Ability to live a safe travelling distance to the training centre - this is not a FIFO/DIDO role (whilst studying at the academy).
- Ability to attend a roster that rotates across early mornings, evenings and weekends (7 on, 7off, rotating)
- To have the necessary personal support networks available to assist you in working the above roster
- Experience working on machinery/vehicles through a hobby or work is highly regarded, but not essential
