Automation Engineer - Manufacturing
Work Location: Perth
Roster: Monday to Friday
FFI our presently seeking a Manufacturing Automation Engineer to join our fast paced and high performing team to design, manufacture and test mechatronic systems for advanced manufacturing applications. You will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of green energy technologies. This is a unique opportunity which doesn’t normally present for the average engineer as you will get to see your designs come to life.
Working closely with technology leads you will lead the design and development of automated machines, systems, and plant to enable low cost scalable manufacturing for a wide range of green energy technologies. Your scope will range from the engineering design in CAD systems through to equipment selection, systems integration, programming, commissioning and testing. You will collaborate with key staff both internally and externally, all the while demonstrating a good understanding of the process.
Key accountabilities will include:
- Perform the programming of PLC and HMI programs for automation systems including robotics
- Design robotic and automated systems in CAD from start to finish
- Lead the selection of industrial robots and end effector design
- Solid understanding of machine vision systems and autonomous systems integration and design
- Develop the PLC and HMI programs software that will control automated systems, which may include complete manufacturing lines and processing plants
- Perform mechatronic engineering tasks including design parameter definition, hazard analysis, detailed design, implementation, verification and validation of software generated
- Lead the testing of automation systems in a prototyping environment
- Constantly generating new ideas and concepts to reduce the manufacturing costs of internally developed green energy systems
- Contribute to verification and validation activities by following ISO9001 design standards
- Perform programming required to ensure effective and efficient control systems.
- Continuously improve PLC programs for optimised productivity.
- Assist in the start-up and implementation of automated control systems including process control
Qualifications and skills required:
- Minimum 5 years prior experience working in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment
- Tertiary Qualifications in Mechatronics, Computer Programming, or IT Robotics-related degree.
- 5 years working experience of different PLCs (ABB, Allen Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, Panasonic, etc) in a Manufacturing environment.
- Experience with 5 axis robots, pick and place automation, and production line automation
- Experience with ACAD programs including FEA
- Experience with designing, building and testing robotic automated autonomous systems
- Previous experience as a PLC Programmer/Automation Technician in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work autonomously or as part of a team.
- The ability to build solid relationships with key stakeholders, suppliers, and service providers.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to introduce and implement continuous improvement.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A high level of attention to detail.
- The ability to meet timely deadlines.
