About the Role

As the Communications Advisor you will lead the development and execution of the Foundation Positioning and Communications Strategy to optimize awareness, understanding and credibility of the Foundation within BHP and across key external audiences. This role will be offered as a 2 year secondment for BHP employees or as a 2 year fixed term contract if you are external to BHP. This position can be based out of any of our BHP office locations.

This role provides the Foundation Board and Leadership Team with assurance that all communication and media related activities are delivered and executed with the highest governance standards, in compliance with the Foundations Communication Protocols, and in a manner reflective of the Foundation’s Positioning and Communications objectives.

In this role you will:

  • Strategy & Research: Develop, implement, and track to the Foundation Positioning & Communications Strategy to achieve “Our Commitment”;  Optimize internal BHP and external stakeholder recognition of the impact of the work of the Foundation; 
  • Positioning & Advocacy: Work with Foundation Leadership Team, Program Directors and Board to proactively develop and implement positioning opportunities; 
  • Strategic Communications: Partner with Program Directors and Leadership team members to create and implement strategies and initiatives/programs that aim to raise awareness of the organization’s impact, outcomes and work and seek to support the Foundation’s amplification and advocacy desires by Program.
  • Annual Communications Plan: Lead development of annual plan aligned to Foundation Positioning & Communications Strategy; 
  • Website: Active and ongoing management of Foundation independent website, ensuring content aligned to strategy.
  • Partners: Develop and maintain relationships with partner communications leads; review and provide input on their comms plans; identify joint communications and advocacy opportunities and work with partners to implement.
  • Framework (including but not limited to leadership engagement, brand campaign, global asset and functional communications,  corporate communications, government relations);

  • Experience across all sub-discipline communication areas
  • Proven capability in strategic communications development
  • Strong capability in social media strategy
  • Advanced project management, planning, and scheduling skills
  • Strong written and editorial capability
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple assignments simultaneously
  • Stakeholder management and non-conventional / creative thinker
