We are looking for a Botanical Advisor to join our Environment and Cultural Knowledge team in Perth (with occasional site travel). Focusing on flora, vegetation and fauna within the Pilbara region, this role will be engaged on a permanent full time basis.

This role is a great opportunity for a motivated, safety conscious professional to join a multi-disciplined team; applying knowledge of relevant legislation and technical guides to Pilbara-focused environmental approvals and to contribute to a regional understanding of environmental values to inform future planning.

Reporting to the Specialist Environment and Cultural Knowledge, you will:

  • Prepare technical reports, data, analysis and provide technical advice to support government and environmental approval requirements
  • Collaborate and build relationships with the internal approvals team, project stakeholders and other SMEs
  • Lead botanical surveys, participate in industry research and contribute toward innovation in the assessment of Pilbara biological values
  • Undertake effective survey planning including, sampling design, logistics and health and safety
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of biological assessment methods, processes and technologies to ensure continuous improvement
  • Contribute toward an inclusive culture through collaboration with peers across the broader Environmental Approvals team

What you’ll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in environmental discipline or related
  • Demonstrated experience as a field botanist/biologist, ideally within the resources sector and/or the Pilbara region
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills coupled with an ability to think on your feet and make sound rational decisions
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to quickly develop positive and robust relationships with stakeholders.
  • Experience with GIS software, preferably ArcGIS

Where you’ll be working

Perth based but with a working focus on the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
