About the role

We are looking for a Business Analyst to join the Yarwun Finance team who will be primarily report to the Senior Finance Advisor. You will provide technical input into management accounting activities to ensure compliance with all internal and external financial accounting requirements and regulations. 

The role is a great opportunity for an individual to play an integral role in the Rio Tinto Aluminium Yarwun Finance Team. Working with and reporting to the Finance Business Partner, you will be:

  • Coordinating and controlling accounting and reporting activities for the business unit;
  • Coordinating cost management activities and monthly stakeholder reporting;
  • Providing inputs to budgeting and forecasting, including liaising with budget owners to understand business needs;
  • Manage requests to/from outsourced providers and functions (including Month End Close);
  • Maintaining finance system master data and records;
  • Contribute to day-to-day problem solving and long-term business improvement;
  • Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Provide information required for internal & external audit work

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce/Accounting
  • CPA or equivalent, or working towards one
  • Effective communication skills to interact with various members of the organization
  • Knowledge of SAP preferred, advanced Excel skills, some experience with developing and maintaining Power BI reports
  • Proactive and the ability to work independently
  • Strong analytical skills and critical thinking and a team player

Where you will be working

Rio Tinto Aluminium – Yarwun Operations

With production beginning in 2004 at our Yarwun alumina refinery, located approximately 10 kilometres north-west of Gladstone in Central Queensland, today the operation produces more than three million tonnes of alumina per year. 

Around 700 people support the operation, with an additional 350 contractors on site each year as part of scheduled maintenance shutdown activities. Thanks to its ‘Industry 4.0’ focus, Yarwun is also a leader in trialing new technologies to improve operations on site, including 3D printing, robotics and drones in confined spaces, and is home to Rio Tinto’s innovative Queensland Research and Development Centre (QRDC). 

Along with Boyne Smelters Limited and Queensland Alumina Limited, our Yarwun Operation supports the local community in a wide range of initiatives.
