About the product team you’ll be joining

We are committed to making a meaningful difference to the 49,000 people across Rio Tinto as they do their day-to-day jobs through our software. To do that well, and to deliver on our promises as a business, we know that user-centred approaches to software development matters. Across the landscape of software products needed to support a business of our size, we need to grow our Business Analysis team to several times its current size. Make no mistake, this is a unique opportunity to grow personally along with helping to scale a team that is driving new product development.

What you will do

As a Business Analyst (Product) you will be:

  • Researching to understand different stakeholders' needs, with guidance, to translate them into requirements and software features.
  • Acting as a liaison between business stakeholders, product owners and engineering teams to ensure clear communication and collaboration throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Applying various business analysis techniques (example: interviews, workshops, prioritization, acceptance, and evaluation criteria) and documenting user stories with clear and concise acceptance criteria.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams (designers, product owners, solution architects, software developers, testers) and assisting in the design and delivery of elegant, compelling, and user-friendly products.
  • Working with the Product Owner/Manager and creating user stories and acceptance criteria from the product vision and epics) and keeping the product backlog up to date.
  • Working closely with the Product Design team to effectively understand user needs, document current & future state user journeys, the end-to-end user experience, and then translate those details into product requirements.
  • Working closely with engineering teams and ensuring that user stories are implemented in line with the defined criteria and timelines.
  • Participating in various Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily standups, estimation sessions and retrospectives, ensuring adherence to Scrum principles.

  • You have demonstrated adaptability for working in unfamiliar contexts: business domain, project life cycle, team-specific ways of working.
  • You are comfortable working in a high pace and iterative environment across cross-functional teams and can simplify complex problems.
  • You appreciate big picture thinking & problem solving and while details are everything, creating an experience that always keeps our users in mind is equally important.

And it’s essential that you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Business or other related discipline, or equivalent experience or training.
  • 2+ years of experience as an Agile Business Analyst applying modern software development planning and delivery techniques (including defining business requirements and creating user stories).
  • Understanding of agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, etc.) and somewhat familiar with continuous delivery practices as part of a product team.
  • Proficiency in conducting business analysis, gathering requirements, and creating user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Exhibit excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt and remain composed under pressure while learning to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Possess an innate people-oriented approach.
  • Foundational understanding of the application delivery, maintenance, and support lifecycle.
  • Problem-solving and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Commitment to fast-paced learning.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and can communicate effectively with non-technical users.
