About the Role

The Portfolio Strategy & Development (PS&D) team bring together Decision Evaluation (DE), Business Development (BD), Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A), Corporate Planning (CP) and Strategy & Market Intelligence (S&MI) work into one team. We have an opportunity flexibly based in Perth, Adelaide or Brisbane, FT/PT with flexible working conditions.

This role will focus on Corporate Planning activities, whose purpose is to govern the Corporate Alignment Planning process so that our plans across BHP are in line with our strategy and we allocate our resources effectively. The role also provides opportunities to work within the Decision Evaluation team, whose purpose is to lead evaluation activities for decisions related to capital investments, planning, transactions and commercial opportunities across the Company  To maximise our influence we operate in a collaborative and commercially astute way.

Suited to someone from a diverse range of backgrounds including consulting, investment banking, corporate finance, law, geology or engineering. Irrespective of background, and leveraging financial modelling capabilities, they will be able to offer analytical expertise and strategic thinking and have strong communication and leadership skills. Primary accountabilities will be supporting governance of the Corporate Alignment Planning (CAP) process to develop integrated Asset and Function plans, and optimise the allocation of capital and resources in line with stated Corporate, Commodity, Asset and Functional strategies and commitments, and data analysis to support the CAP process.

Working either independently or in cross-functional project, commercial or transaction teams, they will be required to influence and challenge thinking, prepare concisely written reports and clearly articulate outputs and insights to senior management and stakeholders.

About You

You establish credibility through strong technical ability, leadership and excellent communication skills. You relate well with people with an engaging style allowing you to build strong working relationships. 

You will have demonstrated experience in:

  • Strong presentation and communication skills (oral and written), with ability to structure and present complex ideas and information in a simple, articulate, balanced and persuasive way
  • Resources, manufacturing/other process-driven industry (advantage, not essential)
  • Critical thinking and reasoning skills, ability to quickly adapt to technical concepts and apply theories. Must be comfortable with ambiguity and constant change
  • Strong business acumen, intuitive to key drivers of shareholder value & deploy financial modelling skills
  • Identifying, engaging and managing a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders
  • Bachelor’s Degree (MBA /Post Graduate in Finance qualification highly regarded)
