ABOUT THE ROLE 

This role is a twelve-month fixed-term position on a Monday-to-Friday basis. This role will preferably be based at our head office in Perth.

The Business Evaluation Specialist will be required to understand South32’s investment evaluation methodologies. It works with cross-functional teams to assess opportunities (including Life of Operation Plans, capital projects, and commercial negotiations) to make recommendations to senior management.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

  • An overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development 
  • Supporting Managers and Principal Analysts with undertaking economic and financial modelling of investments and opportunities identified in the annual Life of Operation Plan (LoOP).
  • Ensuring that investment evaluation inputs, methods and assessments meet Group investment standards.
  • Preparing and delivering timely investment presentations, reports & submissions in an objective, comprehensive, and balanced form.

ABOUT YOU 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

  • Five years combined operational, projects, corporate finance, and/or techno-economic valuation experience.
  • Expert modelling skills
  • Ability to hold and put forward independent views under sustained pressure.
  • Results-focused, delivering quality work products on time.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent eye for detail coupled with pragmatic judgment as to if and when, issues should be raised and escalated

Qualifications for this position are: 

  • Relevant degree in geology, engineering, science, finance or commercial
  • Post-graduate financial qualifications (preferred).
