About BHP BOS program

BHP is deploying a global program of work, known as the BHP Operating System (BOS). About the Role

The main purpose of this role is to sustain the BHP Operating System (BOS) within the Geoscience Function and further increase the BOS maturity post deployment. Working closely with the Function Chief and Leadership Team, drive preparation activities to ensure the BOS reinforce and sustain phase is successful and engage across the Function to ensure delivery of business value.

Initially reporting to Manager Operations, your key deliverables include: 

  • BOS Leads support and build capability in line management to reinforce and sustain the BHP Operating System philosophy, behaviours, principles, and tools, assuring quality in their application to drive significant improvements. A BOS lead supports the ongoing sustainment of BOS through their core accountabilities in their Success Profile.
  • Role model and coach the BOS practices and tools to continually grow BOS capability and way of working to drive planned business impact.
  • Support capabilities of LTS and foster the development of team to achieve performance objectives.
  • Actively drive and work with Superintendents to constantly improve the OEI maturity and BOS Practice scores across their teams.
  • Participate in the evaluation of emerging BOS training issues and recommend improvements or new training programs.
  • Deliver group BOS training for key initiatives as part of ongoing capability development.
  • Collaborate across the improvement community to implement and sustain BOS.
  • Facilitate or support problem solving sessions to identify the root cause of problems, collaboratively problem solve and explore larger opportunities to implement Standardised Work and wider BOS tools.

About You

We are looking for individuals that possess business knowledge, demonstrate excellence in leadership on a day-to-day basis, who are innovative with a bias to action, effectively influence others, and have a strong ability to build capability in others and lead change.   

As a successful candidate you will possess the following:

  • Experience coaching BOS and/or leading and coaching in a BOS way as a line leader/principal (Supervisor or Superintendent level).
  • Have a desire to lead, coach and mentor a team to deliver of the plan and build high performing teams.
  • Have a solid understanding and application of BHP systems and processes.
  • Ideally have applied Standardised Work methodology or been trained in Standardised Work
  • Be able to identify improvement opportunities and work collaboratively with other departments to ensure efficiency and production is maximised.
  • You have experience in business improvement, operational leadership or as a technical leader.
  • Experience or background of Geoscience will be highly advantageous. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline or relevant experience.
  • Experience leading and coaching leadership in a matrix environment.
  • Ability to apply an understanding of business and industry context to support the achievement of value through strategic decision making.
  • Experience working with formal project methodologies.
  • Deep knowledge of business operations, processes and functions.
  • Experience coaching Managers and Leads.
  • Exposure to mining/resourcing is ideal but experience in other industries that utilise an operating system founded on lean principles would be highly regarded (e.g., manufacturing, health, finance, logistics, etc.) 

Location

You will be based in Perth, Western Australia, in the multi award winning office tower - ‘City Square’. You will have stunning river views from your modern open plan office, state of the art facilities including virtual whiteboards and video conferencing facilities, 550 bicycle racks with ample lockers, showers and change room amenities and a large outdoor terrace with barbecues.

Some site travel will also be required. You will be working on a Monday-Friday roster while a Flexi work arrangement is also offered.
