About the role

We are looking for a highly motivated and organised Business Improvement Specialist to drive innovation and play a key role in enabling and driving site initiatives that deliver additional sustained value in accordance with company safety, environmental and statutory requirements.

This role is a great opportunity for a high calibre self-starter to join Iron Ore’s Business Services team and act as a role model inspiring change and ensure results are delivered quickly.

Reporting to the Operations Excellence Principal, you will be:

  • Facilitating and leading high value projects across site using recognised Business Improvement methodologies
  • Coaching and influencing project owners to deliver results quickly and with maximum value
  • Interpreting costs and production drivers to inform strategic thinking and the evaluation and prioritisation of initiatives
  • Undertaking KPI analysis, improvements and project work designed to identify opportunities to add business value
  • Assisting in the facilitation of our transformation programme
  • Creating a site culture of sustainable improvement.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • A current C class drivers’ licence
  • The ability to influence and coach colleagues from different teams
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • A Commerce, Engineering, or other technical degree
  • Lean Six Sigma or other Business Improvement qualifications
  • Experience leading Kaizen projects
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies
  • The ability to recognise improvement opportunities and implement sustainable change
  • Advanced Microsoft office skills
  • The ability to work autonomously
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Previous experience in leading project teams or facilitating workshops to deliver results.

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Previous mining experience is advantageous
  • Lean Six Sigma qualifications (preferably Black Belt or higher)
  • Previous leadership experience
  • Extensive experience using business improvement processes within the mining, manufacturing or heavy industry
  • Project engineering or planning experience
  • Business analyst or commercial experience.

About the broader Business Services team

We strive to ensure all who come to Gudai-Darri have an experience that is consistent with our vision.

While still a developing team, we are the connector between central functions (Contractor Management, Business Improvement, Mines Productivity, Safe Production Systems) and the Operational teams (Mining, Mobile Equipment Maintenance, Fixed plant) as well as our business partners including both embedded contractors as well as shut crews.

Governance and assurance for Rio Tinto proven tools and leading practices are effectively deployed by our team.

Core to success are an effective centralized admin team, who conduct both routine tasks, and respond to adhoc requests which are the nature of the business.
