Cable Crew – Loader Operators

Fortescue’s Cloudbreak mine is located on the traditional lands of the Palyku and Nyiyaparli peoples.

Roster: 7D/7N/14R – FIFO ex Perth or Busselton

We are seeking Cable Crew / Loader operators (CAT (988) with significant civil operating and labouring /trade assistant experience.

The Cable Handling Operator role reports directly to the Mining Support Supervisor and will be responsible supporting and working with a team of cable handling operators to safely execute the plan for the movement of the electric excavator cable management activities to ensure we deliver mining equipment target utilization and availability while minimizing any delays caused by cable management. 

 Key accountabilities will include:

  • Operation of CAT 988 Wheel Loader with cable reel attachment.
  • Inform Field Builders of the cable layout and any infrastructure in the pit relative to the electric excavator by using geofences to protect where required. 
  • Installing signage, delineation and protective arches and road covers as requires.
  • Handling cable from the maintenance stores to pit crest and return for servicing and maintenance requirements. 
  • The loading and correct recommended storing of cable drums and cable in the cable yard. 
  • Performing pre starts on all plant and mobile equipment used for the cable management. 
  • Demonstrate safe working behaviours in all activities.
  • Ensure compliance with FMG and rail safety and environmental processes and procedures.
  • Completing all planned and unplanned maintenance tasks effectively and efficiently ensuring minimal rework.
  • Ability to follow work instructions.
  • Participate in problem solving activities.

 Qualifications and skills required:

  • Current Australian Driver Licence.
  • Able to work in small teams with Critical path work.
  • Ability to read and understand mine plans.  
  • Manual Handling.
  • Risk Management, Hazard Recognition. 
  • Demonstrated experience on mobile plant.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent planning and logistics skills.
  • Good problem-solving capability.
