Chemist/ Scientist
Work Location: Perth
Roster: Monday to Friday
In this position you will have the opportunity to develop advanced materials for green energy production, storage, and conversion. The successful candidate will contribute through product development, technical support and technical service activities to continued diversification of the manufacturing business.
We are looking for either a practical chemist or engineer with a couple of years of experience in a relevant field to join our team. Reporting to the Technical Manager, you will contribute to building excellent working relationships with all customers, external and internal. In time, you will be able to provide support and recommend changes to enhance manufacturing efficiencies.
Key accountabilities will include:
- Running innovation projects in line with business targets
- Closely collaborating with different departments and divisions of FFI to establish market leading green energy production materials
- Effective tailoring of customised products and services as appropriate to suit key customers' particular application conditions
- Arranging optimum product development paths, utilising available resources where possible
- Assessment of trial and finished products using various physical testing equipment and instrumentation ensuring a quality product is delivered
- Ensuring that the provision of samples for performance characterisation in a timely manner
- Ensuring technical best practice is adopted in the lab and in adjacent manufacturing processes
- Liaising with raw material suppliers and setting specifications
- Developing and optimising existing and new formulations
- Ensuring adequate training of laboratory and piloting staff
- Ensuring that costs are contained within budget and forecast
Qualifications and skills required:
- Bachelor's Degree, Masters, Honours and/or PhD in Organic Chemistry, Material Science, Polymer Chemistry, Organic Synthesis, Applied Chemistry or similar
- Recent graduates with relevant experience, a positive attitude, great work ethic, and with strong communication skills (from relevant disciplines) are strongly encouraged to apply
- Some understanding and industry experience working within one or more of the fields of catalysis, ionomer production, adhesives, coatings, and/or polymer development will see you shortlisted
- Solid practical laboratory skills with experience preparing ionomer dispersions and catalyst ink formulations
- Formulating experience as well as reaction chemistry experience within an industrial framework
- You must be able to manage a variable workload and have the organisational skills to prioritise and focus on delivering functional products. You will be used to setting priorities and coordinating multiple test programs
- Exceptional interpersonal and relationship development skills necessary to deal with internal and external customers. You will be dealing with team members across different cultures, customers, suppliers, operations and other business personnel across a broad spectrum of seniority positions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills as you will be dealing directly with clients and colleagues
- Enjoy working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment in collaboration with other like-minded team members and adjacent project teams (also delivering a variation of the system)
- Highly responsible and trustworthy
- The ability to work with multiple discipline projects
- Excellent project management and supervision skills
- Excellent organizational, time management, leadership, and decision-making skills
- Ability to work independently
- Highly experienced communication skills within the project team and stakeholders
- Strong focus on safety and processes a must
