Rio Tinto Energy & Climate (RTEC) is a global team focused on prioritising and accelerating our decarbonisation efforts to deliver on our climate commitments and ensure our business is well positioned for the future low-carbon economy.

Within RTEC, the Renewable Energy team leads global renewable energy project development and procurement outside of Canada and Eastern Australia. The team works closely with our business partners to deliver a deep, fast and cost-effective renewable energy growth trajectory.

About the role

This role will lead the Renewable Energy team in Western Australia and the broader region, responsible for project development and design, study management, system integration and operational readiness. Based in Perth and reporting to the General Manager, Renewable Energy , you will:

  • Manage the development and execution of the renewable energy business strategy within Western Australia
  • Assist with developing objectives that are commercially sound and aligned with the Rio Tinto Group
  • Manage the early phases of the renewable projects, and support through to execution in partnership with the Rio Tinto Major Projects team
  • Interact with senior leaders across the Group to support projects being pursued within RTEC
  • Lead a team of studies and technical experts
  • Engage and collaborate with external partners, government and other external stakeholders

What you’ll bring

  • A strong track record in working collaboratively and supporting others
  • Ability to effectively lead and manage a cross-functional, multi-disciplinary and diverse team
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships across all levels of the business, sufficient to be able to influence strategy and outcomes at a senior level
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with non-specialists both face to face and remotely
  • High levels of accuracy and attention to detail, strong report writing skills and the effective use of graphical information.
  • Knowledge of the Rio Tinto Project and studies approach and experience with project delivery advantageous
  • Knowledge, experience and passion for renewable energy development and sustainability advantageous
