Owned and Operated by Yancoal Australia, Mount Thorley Warkworth (MTW) is one of the largest open pit operations in the area. Located 15 kilometres south-west of Singleton in the beautiful Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, MTW relies on both draglines and load haul systems as the current and preferred mining method. Our site operates continuously 24 hours a day, seven days a week and has a long and proud history, employing approximately 1350 people from local and surrounding communities, who are our most valuable asset.
Job Tasks and Responsibilities
Reporting to the CHPP Electrical Superintendent, you will be a part of a dynamic and motivated team. The role will require you to provide Electrical Engineering support to CHPP and mine operations whilst delivering high value capital and maintenance projects. Setting the standards for electrical engineering practices that meet the statutory requirements, this role will work as a part of the CHPP team and contribute to achieving plan on a page targets and building an inclusive safety culture that enhances the Yancoal – Our Way. Additionally, the role will require you to:
- Manage capital projects identified as critical to the CHPP operations, in a timely and cost-effective manner including developing scope of work, contracts, schedules and budgets.
- Ensure that projects, comply with, and are delivered to, Yancoal Australia standards and policies for HSE.
- Understand programmable logic controllers, wiring schematics, electrical drawings, circuits along with setting up standards for electrical engineering that meet the statutory requirements;
- Identify and pro-actively initiate improvement opportunities;
- Provide engineering support and assistance to maintenance and production teams by maintaining electrical equipment and trouble shooting.
Skills and Experience

- Qualification in Electrical Engineering or similar discipline;
- Minimum five years of experience, preferably in mining / similar heavy industries;
- Programming and fault finding PLC’s and SCADA (Honeywell Experion desirable);
- Drive and focus on continuous improvement;
- High level of attention to detail;
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skill;
- Ability to work autonomously and within a team environment;
- The ability to build rapport and maintain relationships is crucial to the role combined with your excellent multi-tasking skills, ability to prioritise and your practical approach.
