Owned and Operated by Yancoal Australia, Mount Thorley Warkworth (MTW) is one of the largest open pit operations in the area. Located 15 kilometres south-west of Singleton in the beautiful Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, MTW relies on both draglines and load haul systems as the current and preferred mining method. Our site operates continuously 24 hours a day, seven days a week and has a long and proud history, employing approximately 1350 people from local and surrounding communities, who are our most valuable asset. 

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

We're looking for an experienced Mechanical / Civil / Structural / Process / Chemical  Engineer ready for their next career opportunity at our large and productive Mining Operations at Mt Thorley Warkworth.  You will be responsible for delivering a large number of high value added capital and maintenance projects. The role of Project Engineer is to deliver real value to the business and also setting the standards for engineering practice that meet the statutory requirements. Reporting to the Projects and Engineering Superintendent, the role will require you to:

•    Manage capital projects identified as critical to the CHPP operations, in a timely and cost effective manner including developing scope of work, contracts, schedules and budgets. •    Ensure that projects, comply with, and are delivered to, Yancoal standards and policies for HSE. •    Understand the particular characteristics of a project and apply sound judgement at each phase of the project development and execution to the handover. •    Understand key engineering drivers in order to optimize technical solution and minimize technical risks. •    Keep abreast of innovation and best practice in the engineering field and apply this knowledge for successful execution of allocated projects. •    Apply financial/cost analysis rigour to all business analysis and decision making. •    Provide engineering support and assist maintenance department for maintaining process equipment and trouble shooting.  •    Prioritize and sequence the required work/tasks to optimize value throughout the project.

Skills and Experience

Essential Criteria:

  • Tertiary Qualification in Mechanical / Civil / Structural / Chemical Engineering 
  • Minimum five years of experience preferably in mining / similar heavy industries involving crushers, rail mounted yard machines, conveyors, pumps, material handling equipment and process machineries. 
  • Open Cut mechanical engineering coal competence or chartered engineering qualification will be an added advantage to secure this role, or willing to sit for this competency.
  • Safety focused team player.
  • Good communication skills including the ability to engage other professionals within the project development area.
