Owned and Operated by Yancoal Australia, Mount Thorley Warkworth (MTW) is an open cut mine that provides the opportunity to live and work locally. Located 15 kilometres south-west of Singleton in the beautiful Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, MTW relies on both dragline and load haul systems for their continuous operations. The MTW Mine is the largest open cut operation in the region, employing approximately 1,450 people who reside in the local and surrounding communities.

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Superintendent Projects & Engineering, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing the structural integrity program which includes carrying out structural inspection, identifying structures at risk of collapse and implementing repairs or rebuilding of structures;
  • Supervising capital and maintenance projects;
  • Ensure that projects, comply with, and are delivered to, Yancoal Australia standards and policies for HSE;
  • Demonstrate strong personal commitment to HSE and ensure suppliers and contractors comply with Yancoal HSE standards;
  • Manage contractors on site to enable successful execution of structural repair program and other projects;
  • Implement projects to meet safety and quality expectations of Project Engineers within agreed time targets;
  • Understanding the requirements of a project and applying sound judgement at each phase of the project from development and execution to the handover;
  • Prioritizing and sequencing the required work/tasks to optimize value throughout the project;
  • Planning, scheduling & coordinating with stakeholders on day-to-day work, and achievable tasks and projects in time;
  • Fostering a strong culture and encouraging improvement initiatives .

Skills and Experience

To succeed in the role, you will demonstrate the following skills and attributes:

  • Trade qualification in an Engineering Field (Civil / Structural / Mechanical)
  • Minimum five years experience, preferably in mining / heavy industries involving structural building, crushers, rail mounted yard machines, conveyors, pumps, material handling equipment and process machineries;
  • Open cut coal mine / project supervision experience will be highly regarded;
  • Strong interpersonal skills supported by proven stakeholder engagement skills;
  • Safety focussed team player;
  • Good communication skills including the ability to engage other professionals within the project development area;
  • Proficient in the use of computer systems i.e. SAP, Microsoft office suite.
