About the role

Finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs.

At Rio Tinto, we are finding better ways and thinking differently about how we plan for and deliver closure outcomes at the end of the life cycle of our assets. Closure is an emerging priority and technical discipline across the mining industry and we are well positioned to be at the forefront of facing the challenges and realising opportunities.

  • Contribute to the APAC Closure Delivery team to support a portfolio approach and realise synergies

Working closely with RTIO teams and assets that are transitioning to closure, you will:

  • Develop a deep understanding of the asset’s closure outcomes and how they have been developed with a focus on stakeholder engagement, including completion/closure criteria and relinquishment processes
  • Focus on long term risks (technical, execution and social) and guide the development of strategies to control these during execution and post closure management
  • Support and facilitate asset closure transition activities, including closure readiness plans
  • Support development of post closure monitoring and monitoring strategies for assets, including relinquishment and/or in perpetuity management considerations
  • Participate in (and some instances lead on behalf of Closure) closure governance activities
  • As appropriate, facilitate and support the transfer of asset accountability from the Product Group ensuring alignment with the asset’s closure strategy
  • Work closely with RTIO, Rio Tinto Projects and other teams to prepare for closure execution phase to ensure safe, efficient and cost-effective execution of closure activities
