Coal Quality and Logistics Engineer – Wilpinjong Mine

We are seeking a driven and experienced Coal Quality and Logistics Engineer to join our team at the Wilpinjong Mine – a large-scale open-cut operation located 40km northeast of Mudgee. Producing high-quality thermal coal for both domestic and export markets, Wilpinjong plays a critical role in our wider operations.
This is an outstanding opportunity for a motivated professional looking to advance their career in a technically diverse and operationally significant role. Reporting directly to the Technical Services Superintendent, you will lead and support a small team focused on optimizing coal quality and logistics to meet the varied demands of our customer base.
Role Responsibilities
- Manage coal quality processes to ensure compliance with both domestic and export specifications
- Implement and oversee quality control measures across mining and processing stages
- Develop and maintain blending forecasts to support optimal product delivery and meet customer requirements
- Coordinate logistics to support reliable and timely coal delivery
- Conduct audits and performance assessments of quality and logistics systems
- Collaborate with the Technical Services and Production teams on initiatives to improve coal quality, supply chain efficiency, and throughput
- Leverage software tools and systems to track, report, and improve coal quality metrics
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to the team on coal quality issues and solutions.

About You:
- Tertiary qualification in Mining/Civil Engineering/Geology/Process or comparable degree
- Proven experience in open-cut mining operations, preferably coal
- Exposure to coal logistics and supply chain coordination is highly desirable
- Strong skills in MS Office; experience with data analytics or logistics software is a plus
- Demonstrated track record of initiating and delivering Continuous Improvement projects
- Strong communicator with the ability to influence, coordinate and drive outcomes across multiple teams

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Visibly support and champion Peabody’s Missions and Values
- Act in accordance with and adhere to Safety as a Way of Life Management System
- Identify causes of and solve bottlenecks in the production process
- Carry out investigations to optimise process performance and consumables usage
- Short, medium- and long-term planning of process activities
- Monitor process performance; and assist in the design and commissioning of new process control systems
- Ensure activities comply with safety, environmental and statutory requirements
- Other duties as assigned by the company

Physical Requirements
Physical Requirements - Surface Environment
- Must have the ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift
- Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
- Must have the ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on/off equipment and ladders
- Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
- Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs and good hand to eye coordination
- Must have the ability to lift/raise 10 – 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the work shift
- Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work area
- Must have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evening and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays)
Physical Requirements - Underground Environment
- Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time on uneven, rocky surfaces for up to the entire length of the shift
- Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
- Must have the ability to walk for up to 4 hours at a time. Will be required to walk through different sections of the mine with varying degrees of clearance and headroom
- Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
- Must have the ability to bend or stoop for a full work period as a result of mine height
- Must have the ability to climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on/off equipment and ladders
- Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs and good hand to eye coordination
- Must have the ability to lift 25 – 50 lbs. on a frequent basis and the ability to occasionally lift items weighing up to 80 lbs.
- Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work area
- Must have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evening and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays)

- Must have the ability to sit for up to 8 hours
- Must be able to use a computer and communicate effectively in various forms, including email and by phone
- Must have the ability to review paper and electronic documents and complete computer entry of data from paper documents
- Must be able to find, remove and return files to/from file cabinets and discuss issues by telephone and in person
- Must be able to operate copier, fax machine, etc.
