Work Location: Fortescue Centre, East Perth.

Roster: Mondays to Fridays, but flexibility will be required to accommodate various time zones.

Overview:

The Senior/Commercial Accountant is a subject matter expert in financial accounting for International subsidiaries at FMG. As part of a lean team, this role exercises considerable judgement applying a broad understanding of IFRS/GAAP to ensure accuracy and effectiveness in all accounting tasks, supporting the financial accounting team by performing year-end close and reporting activities, performing technical research and owning complex reconciliations and journal entries.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Establishment of initial finance and tax compliance services in conjunction with Fortescue’s tax, treasury, HR/payroll, cosec, and legal teams and appointed accounting/advisory firm.
  • Coordinate the preparation/review of in-country statutory reporting, including preparation of work papers, note disclosures and management of external auditors and the sign off and approval of statutory accounts.
  • Assist in the transition of basic accounting functions to in-country finance and administration teams.
  • Assist in the coordination and management of accounting and audit services firms.
  • Reconciliation between local GAAP and IFRS accounts and journal postings where required
  • Regular communication with local accounting teams for ongoing corporate financial accounting support

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Finance / Accounting / Business tertiary degree and post graduate qualification (CA/CPA)
  • Strong technical accounting experience including financial statement preparation and management reporting.
  • Previous Audit Experience preferred and knowledge of IFRS and other Accounting standards - ability to research accounting related issues
  • Advanced excel skills, SAP experience is desirable and strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and bring complex issues to resolution
  • Ability to foster strong working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders
