About the Role
Reporting to the Manager Power & Gas, you will ensure effective gas contracting and management of the natural gas supply chain process related to BHP’s gas procurement activities in Western Australia. Along with supporting day to day flow assurance and gas contracting, as part of the Inbound Energy and Carbon Offsets team, this role will have the opportunity to assist with BHP’s energy transition and decarbonization efforts in Australia.
In addition, key responsibilities will include:
- Focusing on safety and performance aligned to BHP’s governance and regulatory requirements.
- Manage external suppliers/contractors (and their performance) to ensure effective operations of daily gas supply & pipeline transport arrangements and associated positions related to BHP Nickel West and WAIO Assets
- Performing future scenario planning and developing a deep understanding of commercial contracts and offtake agreements to identify key levers for contract negotiations for BHP’s WA domestic gas portfolio (short & long term and gas transportation and storage services)
- Lead and effectively manage any crisis which may disrupt gas supply or demand (including pipeline transport), to ensure flow assurance to BHP Nickel West and WAIO operational sites
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders, both internal (i.e., BHP Functions, Nickel West and WAIO Assets) and external (i.e., pipeline operators, government regulators, vendors) to deliver integrated solutions for the business.
- Ensure accurate administration and timely execution of contracts and scheduling activities in compliance with governance and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to be on-call (including weekends)
- Contributing to projects focused on BHP’s energy transition and decarbonization efforts, in particular with respect to renewable power, fuels and carbon offset opportunities.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will be a collaborative individual with excellent commercial acumen gained within the petroleum, gas or liquid's environment. You possess a sound understanding of the Western Australian Gas Market, are team oriented and results focused with a demonstrated track record in problem solving and delivering successful outcomes within a timely manner.
In addition, we are ideally looking for the following skills and experience:
- Knowledge of marketing, technical and commercial issues associated with the gas industry.
- Contract negotiations and contract management skills
- Ability to identify key value drivers and risks and translate them into strategic and tactical scheduling plans that optimize for costs, throughput and risk mitigation.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
- Advanced analytical skills
- Excellent communication, facilitation, influencing and interpersonal skills, essential to building constructive relationships and credibility with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to work unsupervised, under pressure with strong attention to detail and manage a significant portfolio base.
- Tertiary qualification in a discipline with a strong quantitative methods component (commerce, mathematics, finance or marketing)
- Post-qualification experience in mining and resources sector well regarded.
- Experience also in electricity markets, although not necessary would be well regarded.
