Manager Commercial

Work Location: Fortescue’s Perth office - located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people

Roster: Monday to Friday, with flexible work arrangements available

Role overview:

In support of Fortescue’s strong focus on green energy and our carbon neutrality targets by 2030, we are looking for a Commercial Manager to drive value through effective capital deployment by Fortescue’s Iron Ore Operations.

Reporting to the GM Commercial, this role will be responsible for developing financial performance reporting for Fortescue’s Iron Ore capital portfolio, improving capital budgeting/forecasting and prioritisation processes, supporting capital decisions by weighing up risk and value, preparing business cases for value-driven capital decisions and providing commercial and analytical support to project teams and senior operational leaders.

Fortescue’s Iron Ore operations capital expenditure is $2.0 billion+ annually.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and embed financial performance reporting for capital portfolio 
  • Improve annual and quarterly capital budgeting, forecasting and prioritisation processes
  • Maximise value through effective capital deployment – weighing up risk and value 
  • Prepare business cases and decision papers in support of capital expenditure decisions – leveraging your understanding of NPV and other valuation methodologies
  • Provide commercial and analytical support to project teams and operational leadership on value based decisions
  • Govern and oversee project investment committee
  • Coaching and training team members in business case development
  • Work closely with operational commercial managers and the broader groups business planning teams to meet corporate objectives

Qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Business, Commerce or Engineering
  • Experience in resources sector
  • Strong understanding of financial models and valuation metrics (NPV, IRR etc)
  • Ability to develop compelling business cases with understanding of commercial and financial factors
  • Ability to identify opportunities and support valuation thereof, bringing together cross-functional teams
  • Ability to develop and maintain insightful capital performance reporting
