We are looking for a vibrant and innovative Communications Advisor to enhance Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s communications and engagement with our Western Australian workforce and across the communities in which we operate.

This role supports the Lead External Affairs & Communications (EA&C) on wide-ranging corporate and external affairs, and internal and digital communications.

Key duties include

  • Support business-wide corporate affairs and communications, including all-employee Town Hall events and webcasts, and employee and leader communications and updates.
  • Coordinate an engaging monthly employee newsletter, using a creative lens to continually improve readership.
  • Identify creative and innovative ways to share positive stories across our wide-ranging channels.
  • Create engaging social content for closed Facebook groups and LinkedIn, as well as for other internal channels.
  • Produce creative content using Canva, Adobe Suite or similar platforms.
  • Manage and maintain an annual planner of business-wide events and opportunities.
  • Oversee and advise on the effectiveness of our communications channels and coordinate metrics reporting.
  • Support the implementation of business-wide Communications Plans.
  • Identify and escalate potentially contentious issues.
  • Maintain EA&C’s procedures, guidelines, templates, tools and repositories.
  • Other duties, as required.

 About You

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Strong writing and editing skills, with impeccable attention to detail and accuracy.
  • A track record in improving readership and engagement for newsletters, publications or socials platforms.
  • A background devising creative ways to customise engaging content for different channels and audiences.
  • Experience increasing engagement and membership of social media accounts (and moderating), particularly closed Facebook groups and Linkedin.
  • The ability to easily adopt new communications tools and technologies and being ‘tech-savvy’ (experience with platforms such as Hootsuite, Canva, EDMs, iMovie or Adobe Suite).
  • Exceptional organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and timeframes.
  • Strong communication / interpersonal skills to influence stakeholders and build effective partnerships.
  • A drive and eagerness to enter a high-performing, creative team.

It will be beneficial if you have experience:

  • Working in corporate communications and as a journalist
  • In filming

This role is based in Rio Tinto’s Perth head office at Central Park in the Perth CBD.
