We are looking for Communications and Engagement Specialists to enhance Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s communications and engagement, with our workforce and across the communities in which we operate.

These roles report to the Mine Site General Manager, with a direct line to the Principal Advisor – Communications. The role provides communications expertise and deliverables to the General Manager, management team and site leaders, ensuring leaders are aligned on priorities and messaging, whilst liaising with the Communications and External Affairs team.

Key duties include:

  • Adhere to all Rio Tinto Health and Safety standards, policies and procedures and report any safety hazards and risks to the appropriate channels
  • Develop, coordinate and distribute site-specific communications and engagement that support key business priorities
  • Ensure effective distribution of content via various channels
  • Develop site Communications Action Plans and ensure a regular drumbeat of communications
  • Implement communication strategies that promote positive engagement amongst the workforce
  • Liaise with other site business areas and contractors to support site activities
  • Identify positive stories that can be shared with site, all of Iron Ore and/or externally to enhance the reputation of site and Rio Tinto Iron Ore
  • Support the leadership team to identify and escalate potentially contentious issues and develop strategic communications and engagement to manage risks
  • Provide strategic and tactical communications and engagement advice and assistance to site leaders
  • Monitor, report and evaluate communications and engagement impact on driving key site priorities
  • Maintain regular liaison with External Affairs and Communications team
  • Provide best practice advice on site communication content and channels and effectiveness
  • Ensure appropriate alignment of Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s strategy with site communications.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have: 

  • Strong communication / interpersonal skills to influence stakeholders and build effective partnerships
  • Demonstrated background in providing strategic advice in communications
  • Ability to support events and engagement opportunities with the workforce
  • A drive and eagerness to develop
  • Ability to work autonomously, drive outcomes and meet action plans
  • Microsoft Office skills
  • Current C class drivers’ licence.

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Related industry exposure
  • Experience in filming, photography and video editing.
